In this episode we speak with Tom Eckersley to discuss his book, “Journey of a Post Traumatic Soul,” which covers topics of mental health, such as suicide, depression, PTSD, abuse and rape. Although these can be very heavy topics, many of us can relate to some aspect of Tom’s journey. The spiritual path on Earth isn’t all hearts and rainbows. It’s important to face these things - the way out is through. Tom shares how he was able to move towards the light at the end of the dark tunnel of trauma.

Topics discussed:

  • How the death of Tom’s mother was a catalyst for the emergence of the repressed traumatic childhood incident.

  • That it may be harder for men individually and collectively to talk about these things because historically they’re expected to be strong protectors.

  • How bad reactions or no reaction to Tom’s sharing about the trauma to close friends and family made it difficult to move through the healing process.

  • The later understanding that his partying, addictive tendencies and suicide attempts were all byproducts of the buried trauma.

  • Some of the tools Tom utilized to help cope.

  • Exercise as a form of therapy.

  • Humor as a coping mechanism.

  • Destigmatizing mental healthcare.

  • An encounter with spiritual beings that helped Tom decide he wanted to be on Earth.

  • Tom’s suggestions for how to overcome the reluctance to asking for help.
